Illusionist Performs Disappearing Trick Using A Mirror

Here's a video which shows an illusionist's trick in action. The guy is standing on a table, he lifts up a towl, and disappears. The trick is that there is a mirror running down the middle of the table facing the camera which reflects back the camera side of the table. The illusionist is behind the mirror.

Guy Built A Moving Stargate Out Of Legos For A Good Time

Lego Stargate PhotosA guy build a moving stargate out of legos and has a bunch of photos to show for it. Unfortinately there doesn't seem to be a video of the starget in action. However, he has the starget hooked up to a RCX treadmill (whatever that is) which spins the stargate around for a random number of seconds and repeats that seven times. The chevrons (the little red things on the gate) have LED lego blocks in them which light up as well. Legos seem to be a pretty way to fast prototype things based on some of the other projects I've seen done with them.

Check out all of the photos of this lego stargate for yourself.

Video Of The Game Runner Video Game Treadmill Control Device

Gamerunner VideoHere is a video of a treadmill which plugs into your computer and records the treadmill movement as forward movement in video games. This one is called Gamerunner and you run on the treadmill and then use a bike handle type device which is mounted on the front of the treadmill to move and fire. I have a similar product called a SimCycle which doesn't work very good for various reasons. The problems with the SimCycle were that it wasn't a real tension flywheel, your knees were always hitting the desk, and you would be winded but you couldn't stop (specifically in racing games) because if you did you'd lose the game. I'd say the Gamerunner is probably a better product then the SimCycle because you're standing up instead of sitting and you can hang on to the bike controller. Still the problem of getting winded though.

There is a review of the Gamerunner here and you can watch the video of the Gamerunner in action below or view it on the host site.

Photo And Video Of Worlds Smallest Monkets The Pygmy Marmoset

Tiny Monkey VideoOver on Yahoo's most emailed photos they have several images of these tiny Pygmy Marmoset monkeys which have been kicking around in the top 25 or so for the last two weeks. The photos of these monkeys are from a zoo in Sweden but over on YouTube there is a video of the tiny monkeys in action at a zoo in Canada. According to the caption for this photo these tiny monkey's are the smallest monkeys in the world and live in the upper Amazon basin. The video of the Pygmy Marmoset monkeys shows an adult size monkey next to a baby and then has a hand that moves into camera range for a size comparison.

Check out the video of the pygmy marmoset monkey below or on the host site. And check out the full sized photos of the minature monkeys over on Yahoo.

Video Of A Cool Looking Flexible LED Display In Action

Bendable LED Display VideoIn this video they demo a flat array of LEDs (called a flexgrid) which works like a low resolution display. Each LED in the matrix has a plastic or glass box around it and can be individually switched on and off. The whole display can be bent into a tube shape and controlled via computer (I assume). In the video the guy bends it around in the dark as it flashs various patterns over it's surface. It would probably work pretty good as one of those scrolling word signs too. The original post about this bendable LED display mentioned it's possible use in clothing. How about LED display doormats?

Watch the full video of the flexible LED display below or click over and view it on the host site.

Tesla Coils Invader Suburban America For The Win

Crazy Tesla Coil PhotoSo apparently there is a Flickr photo pool which contains a bunch of crazy looking photos of tesla coils in action. This photo is of a tesla coil out in someones driveway in the suburbs arcing into the person's front yard. There are a bunch of other crazy photos as well which are mostly taken inside with smaller tesla coils. Apparently the streamers from the coils can set things on fire and tesla coils create ozone which is probably why this one is placed outside. Lastly these things make a bunch of noise which I'm sure the neighbors in this photo were happy with.

Check out a larger photo of this tesla coil plus other photos of tesla coils in action.

Matrix Ping Pong Spoof Effects Operated By Chameleon Ninjas

Matrix Ping Pong VideoHere's a widely popular spoof of the Matrix done using pingpong and live action effects.  Obviously if you've seen the Matrix you know about their wide angle shots, camera pans, slow motion, and exaggerated character movement. In this spoof of it they have a pingpong table setup on a black background. There is a red player and a orange player. What you don't see (for the most part) is the people dressed in black who blend in with the black background (we've posted a similar video before). In this video, there is a ninja guy in black who moves the ping pong ball around. Additionally there are two people working each "player" in the ping pong game. The main guy in the suit has black pants on and there is another ninja guy dressed in black who opperates his colored legs. They fake all the camera pans, wide shots, and slow motion in real time. It looks surprisingly good.

View the full video below of the Matrix Ping Pong spoof or click over and view it on the host site.

AD&D Meets Legoland Miniatures In Live Action Everquest For A Good Time

Everquest LegolandPull on your nerd hat and prepare for another one of those OMG WTF moments of "Why didn't I think of that one?". So there is a guy that put togather something called BrickQuest. Basically he took the original board game idea added a little Everquest, a little AD&D, and built the sets with legos and lego characters ala pewter miniatures. One other thing it reminds me of is an old game written in GW-BASIC in the 80s called Wizard.bas in that you don't know what's in the next room until you move there. But wait, that's not all. It has ninjas! Black ninjas and red ninjas and even a Ninja Warlord. What's not to love about this game? As far as I can tell you basically have to buy all the legos yourself and then put it togather with some imagination (or copy the stuff in his images) though he does provide a rulebook. Lego ninja's for the win!

If you're a lego ninja nerd and you can't help it head on over and check out the BrickQuest board game.

George Lucas Strikes Back With The Christmas Version Of Darth Vader All In Red

Christmas Darth Vader PhotoIf you are looking for what NOT to buy your local Star Wars nerd for Christmas this has probably got to be at the top of your list. I'd like to know what marketing genius or focus group came up with the idea of a red Darth Vader for Christmas and though it would sell a billion copies. What exactly do you do with a red Darth Vader + yuletide wreath + Christmas light's decorated Star Destroyer background? You can't exactly throw the red Darth Vader down with your other Star Wars nerd toys and get it on can you? What's the play? Darth Vader slipped in some red paint and is REALLY MAD NOW? I think you're way over the top now George. Which part of the continuity of Star Wars does a red Darth Vader fall into? What's next? Darth Vader in a Santa suit? I guess maybe you could stick it on the top of your Christmas tree if you were a real Star Wars nerd.

Check out the full size photo of the red Darth Vader action figure for yourself over at Rebelscum.

Guy Shapes Some Glass With a Plasma Torch In This Photo

Glass Fire PhotoFor some reason I ended up over at Flickr searching for the word "fire" and this image showed up. From what I can tell it seems to be a guy shaping glass with this plasma torch looking thing. Some of the other images in the series appear to be students shaping glass with similar burners but this image was the best one. It probably isn't called a "plasma torch" but it sure looks like one if you ask me. I think I need one of those things. I'd like to see a video of the plasma torch in action.

Check out the full size photo of the glass maker guy for yourself.
