Video Demo Of The Havok Physics Engine Using Various Materials
This demo video from some video game show demonstrates the Havok physics engine with a bunch of different materials. They throw objects through various materials (wood, glass, jelly, metal) and they break up, dent, or bounce back like they would in the real world (no pre-animation).

Video Of A Crossbow Built Out Of Legos Firing A Bolt Into A Metal Can
Here is a video which features a fully working crossbow built out of legos and rubber bands. The rubber bands are across the front to create the tension on the bow. Additionally there seems to be some rubber bands on the back area holding the stock of the crossbow togather. Lastly it seems like he has some kind of pump system for launching the bolt but it could be gears instead. In any event he loads the bolt in and fires a couple times at a metal paint thinner can. The point of the bolt pokes a hole in the can but the bolt itself doesn't stick.

New vs Old 9mm Bullet Strikes A Katana Blade And Splits In Half For The Lose
In this video they have a katana setup in a vice and a k9mm pistol setup in a gun vice device with the 9mm pointed at the blade of the katana. The blade is edge on to oncoming the bullet. The guy presses a lever on the gun vice which pulls the trigger on the 9mm (I assume this is so that they have it exactly correct to hit the edge of the katana). The bullet hits the edge of the katana and splits in half; hitting the target behind the katana in two pieces. They show a closeup of the katana blade after the bullet hits it and as far as I can tell there is metal from the bullet stuck to the blade. I don't think the blade was damaged by the bullet.

Beat the Balrog At His Own Game With Your Own Flaming Whip
Ran across a site with instructions on how to build your own flaming whip with some chain, rope, and metal pipe. You're probably better off NOT building it though as you'd probably accidently wrap it around your leg for an in prompt to BBQ. In lieu of that you can watch the video instead of a guy with a flaming jump rope getting crazy on stage. The flaming torch spinners? Yeah, they have nothing on this guy with his flaming jump rope. I'd even go as far as to say Mad Max might be jealous of the flaming jump rope. There is an additional photo of dual flaming jump ropes after the jump.

Video Of A Mesh Sphere Virtual Reality Environment Called A VirtuSphere
Interestbing video of an attempt at a 360 degree virtual reality system. The person puts on a head set display and holds some kind of joystick (or game gun) and then climbs inside a metal mesh sphere. The sphere is sitting on what are probably some kind of roller balls which allow the sphere to roll in any direction. The person walks 'in place' around inside the sphere and their walking is translated into the 3D virtual game environment. Apparently it detects if you duck down or run and translates that into the game as well. I think it would probably be pretty strange to walk inside this thing because the floor would always be around the edges of your walking area.

Video Rendered In Maya Of A Tornado Eating An Oil Refinery
Here's a video I found on Google Video of a Tornado rendered in Maya. The partical effects seem to be done pretty well and it looks like the tornado is ripping through an oil refinery or some such. There are all kinds of what look like sheet metal particles swirling around outside of the body of the tornado itself. And where the tornado moves through the refinery there are explosions and fire gouting up into the air. The video doesn't perticularly look very real but they did add a camera shake effect so it would seem like someone was holding the video camera.

Metal Robot With A Latex Einstein Head Walks Around And Talks
We're one step closer to a Futurama future! This video has a group of scientists from Hubo Labs working on a robot version of Einstein. I'm not sure what their overall goal with the project is other than maybe creating a robot tour guide or robot grade school history/science lesson. The head of the robot is a human shaped latex head of Einstein while the rest of the robot is your generic Japanese looking robot. The head and face of Einstein has facial expressions and 'talks' (though I assume it is pre-recorded). The head itself looks pretty good but it would have probably looked better had it been on a human sized body and not a three foot tall robot body.

Rube Goldberg Machines Mixes Some Noodles Up In This Japanese Video
So apparently in Japane they have contests on who can build the best Rube Goldberg machine to make noodles with. A Rube Goldberg machine is a complex 'machine' which usually has at least 10 different steps to accomplish a simple task. In Japan they call it a Pythagorean Machine. The machine in this video goes on and on and on (and on) including using bowling balls, metal ball bearings, a cross bow, burning string, marbles, paper boats, bamboo fountains, a tea pot, a temperature gauge, an egg roll, and finally it ends with a bowl of noodles (what I assume to be hot water) and a raw egg dropped on top. It takes about six and a half minuates for the 'machine' to complete.

In this video the guy is dressed up as a ninja except that he has a metal strainer on his head which makes him a 'samurai'. He goes into various details about how to make your own 'Ask A Ninja' spoof video including moving around while staying in the same place so it looks like you have multiple camera angles and talking about podcasting. It finishs up with an out take talking about using the strainer as samurai armor.
