This video shows off a prototype of a house building robot. The robot has a pattern that it follows and it just builds one layer on top of another by laying out material (like concrete) and contouring it. The initial robot in the video is a small prototype which seems to be using clear and near the end of the video it moves to larger prototypes using concrete.

Guy in this video sits in a car seat which is welded to a robotic arm. The arm swings him around and I assume it is controlled by a human operator verses a recorded or random sequence of movements. Even so a couple times he almost hits his head on the ground for a Darwin Award.

Here's a video of a guy playing air hockey with a robot he built. The robot tracks the puck with a camera and then uses it's harm to hit the puck away. It seems to be pretty good if a little slow. For example, it seems to have trouble recognizing�when the puck is still on it's own side of the line after hitting it.

In this commercial there is a guy who builds machines similar to Leonardo Da Vinci. He calls himself a kinetic sculpture and his sculptures are made of light materials and powered by the wind. The sculptures look like robotic crop sprinklers with wings. The main idea of the commercial is that the only thing standing in the way of innovation is ourselves. This is somewhat hypocritical because the commercial is for the car company BMW. BMW has been making the same cars for the last 50 years. An innovative car company. What a joke.

Apparently this video contains a demo of an automated robot turret that has a 5.5 mm machine gun built into it. The turret costs around $200,000 and was designed to be deployed at the DMZ in South Korea according to some of the other info listed with the video. It comes with a day and a night camera in addition to people tracking and recognition software (which you'll see in the video). One thing I noticed about the tracking "square" that the software places around people was that it seemed to lag behind the person so I wonder if the gun leads in front of them. It also appears to give the people a chance to surrender before it fires on them. Welcome to the future?

This video features what appears to be a college student robot project. The difference here is that instead of a robot that walks around this robot takes a rubik cube and solves it. As far as I can tell they have one camera on each side of the cube so that the computer robot can analyze the state of the cube and then run a solve on it. While it is solving the cube there are also flashs of light so I'm not sure if they are camera flashs or LEDs. In any event it looks like the robot rubik cube solver solves the rubik cube in around 36 seconds. I assume that it works like computer run chess applications by running as many solving tests as possible until it gets a hit path that solves the cube.

So here is a video of a demonstration in Japan showing a human like 'android'. The android stays sitting in the chair the whole time so I'll wager they still need to work on that whole walking thing. The actual face looks pretty real but�I noticed they covered up the hands with gloves because they probably made it look fake. The android moves around but you can tell the motions are driven by servos as they are hardly smooth to say the least. The commentary in the video is all in Japanese so good luck with that. Maybe they need to pair up with the company working on that robotic pack mule for the US Army.

Here is a video of a robot pack mule that is being developed for the military to carry gear into terrain which is inaccessable by vehicle. They show it moving through various terrain including snow, deep mud, rocky shale, and just regular dirt. This thing looks like two guys carrying a load between them as the legs in the front and the back both have the joint pointed inwards. It really looks weird because it moves like a human but your eyes tell you it's a robot. They show it turning in a circle by side stepping and being able to catch itself if someone kicks it in the side. I'd like to see them walk this thing up a sand dune though. You know after they get this thing working pretty good�as a pack animal that�guard dogs and or mounting guns on this thing is next. Robot police horses? If we can't have flying cars this�might be the next best thing. Imperial walkers here we come.

Here is a video that is getting huge coverage across the net of a robot that tranforms from a car into a robot and back again. We've posted other videos of transforming robots which were spoofs, commercials, or just CGI shots but this isn't one of those. This was shown at some robotics show or some such in Japan (where else?). The robot is about the size of something that you could build with an erector set. The legs are out in front and the arms, head, and body are in the back. If they had changed it to drive in the other direction that would have basically had Optimus Prime. You just know they are going to have real RC transformers in a few years for a couple hundred dollars.

This is a pretty short clip featuring a garbage man. The video is setup and we see a garbage truck pull into the video and then stop. One of the garbage men gets off the back of the truck and comes towards the lone garbage can. At this point a guy jumps up out of the garbage can with his arms out and the garbage man skips backwards in shoke before breaking out laughing. I'm not sure how the guy in the garbage can knew when to pop up out of the can (by radio or he just heard their voices or what). All the garbage trucks in California usually only have a driver now and a robotic arm which grabs the can.
